Make Sure You Have Mosquitoes on Your Property Before Requesting ACMAD Services

Midges are beginning to appear due to the recent warm spring temperatures. They appear earlier in the spring than mosquitoes do, and are not vectors for disease. The Ada County Mosquito Abatement District (ACMAD) does not offer abatement for midges, so please be sure to confirm that you have mosquitoes on your property before requesting ACMAD services.

Some differences between midges and mosquitoes include:

  • Midges do not have a biting needle (proboscis) and do not transmit diseases.
  • Midges will land on the walls and ceiling of your house, while mosquitoes do not tend to land for very long.
  • Midges swarm in dense clouds, which is not as common for mosquitoes.
  • Midges have glass-like wings, while mosquitoes’ wings are hairy.
