Internship Opportunities

An internship with us can provide:

  • Valuable work experience to bolster your resume
  • Interview skills
  • A professional network for references and job opportunities

We have internships in many disciplines, but positions are limited. All interns will be interviewed, and must pass reference and criminal background checks (to qualify for placement you must meet IDAPA 11.11.01 qualifications). All positions have the opportunity to attend court hearings, receive department-wide trainings, and shadow staff supervising juveniles in the Detention and Probation.

Probation

Work directly with youth and their families to understand the juvenile court system. Field, home, and office visits are expected and flexible hours are required. Probation internships support professional development and growth in the following areas:

  • Assessment skills
  • Contracts
  • Problem-solving
  • Program familiarity
  • Crisis intervention
  • Group facilitation or co-facilitation

Diversion

A placement with the Diversion Program is a one-year commitment for students seeking a bachelors in social work.  The program starts in the fall semester with work hours on Monday and Wednesdays, 8 am – 5 pm.  Interns focus on prevention and intervention by working with first-time, low-risk youth to help them learn how to make better decisions, hold them accountable, and provide reparation to the community.  The intervention consists of a diversion program, where clients resolve cases out of court and under the supervision of a probation/diversion officer.  Interns will be trained in small group facilitation in order to present curricula to students at local middle & junior high schools and will partner with school counselors and fellow interns to facilitate groups.
