We want to know what you think about the possible expansion of the Ada County Jail. Please take the survey and let us know!

If you have been following what’s happening with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office over the last several years, you have probably noticed how full our jail is every day. We have 1,116 beds. The average number of inmates for the last year is 1,013.

Sheriff Matt Clifford – and the Ada County Board of Commissioners — want to know what you think about improving and expanding the Ada County Jail. We’d appreciate it if you would take the Ada County Public Safety Jail Survey and let us know.

The last major expansion to the Ada County Jail occurred in 2004, when we built the 308-bed medium custody unit. Ada County’s general population in 2004 was 332,927.

The last expansion of any kind was in 2013, when we opened the 88-bed maximum-security unit. That got us to 1,116 beds. Ada County’s population was 417, 180.

Today, it’s 544,590. During the last decade, Ada County’s population increased by 33% – and we haven’t added a single bed to our jail.

COMPASS estimates show in the next decade, Ada County will have well over 600,000 residents. The the Ada County Public Safety Jail Survey should only take a few minutes to fill out, will help us figure how to respond.

If you want to see how many inmates we have in custody – and how many people we are keeping out of jail through our Pretrial, Alternative Sentencing, and Misdemeanor Probation programs, check out https://adacounty.id.gov/sheriff/community/sheriffs-reports/jail-population-dashboard/

Here is a QR code that will also take you to the survey. Thanks!
