Eagle Police arrest 62-year-old Las Vegas man in connection with five-state bank fraud spree

Anubor J. Bagbi is charged with felony counts of burglary, forgery, fraud, and misappropriation of personal information for crimes committed at two Treasure Valley area banks last week.

Bagbi is also a suspect in bank fraud cases from Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, and South Dakota. The banks have reported losses in excess of $1 million.

Eagle Police detectives began their investigation Thursday after Bagbi showed up at a local bank and tried to use false identifying information to set up an account and deposit a bogus check.

Investigators say Bagbi uses a stolen identity to set up bank accounts, deposits fraudulent checks, and then withdraws money from those accounts before moving on to the next bank.

Investigators developed evidence Bagbi did that at banks in Garden City and Eagle this month.

On Thursday they caught him using the personal identifying information of another person, which he was using to try to set up accounts at both banks.

Eagle Police detectives – with the assistance of Garden City Police – developed evidence and interviewed Bagbi before arresting him Thursday afternoon.

Bagbi is being held in the Ada County Jail on a $200,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for Dec. 28.

Federal criminal charges against Bagbi in connection with fraud at the other banks are pending.
