Deputies seize over a pound of fentanyl during traffic stop in I-84

Two California men are being held in the Ada County Jail after deputies found over a pound of fentanyl powder, over 2600 fentanyl pills, and 48 grams of methamphetamine in their car earlier this month.

The driver of the car, 47-year-old Jose Coria, is charged with felony counts of drug trafficking and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Passenger Israel Castellanos-Aldrete, 46, is charged with a felony count of possession of controlled substance.

Deputies pulled over a sedan on westbound Interstate 84 near the rest area east of Boise just before 1 p.m. Oct. 5 after a deputy saw the car moving erratically while changing lanes.

The deputy found a small bag of methamphetamine and a pipe in Castellanos-Aldrete pants pockets after he gave consent for deputies to search him during the traffic stop.

A different deputy arrived with a K9 drug detection dog around that same time. The K9 dog detected the presence of drugs in the car.

Deputies then found large amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine in the trunk.

Deputies arrested Coria and Castellanos-Aldrete and booked them into the Ada County Jail, where both remain.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 9
