Boise man charged with aggravated assault for pointing gun at teens

Deputies arrested a 25-year-old man for pointing a handgun at teenagers who toilet-papered his south Boise-area home Monday night.

Omar S. Al Azzawi is charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault.

Deputies began their investigation just before 10:10 p.m. Monday after dispatchers got a call from a resident in a home near the Charter Pointe subdivision in south Boise about some kids toilet-papering their home and driving away.

While deputies were on their way, dispatchers got more calls, where they were told a resident of the home located the teenagers and everyone involved was back at the house.

When deputies arrived, they found three boys – between the ages of 17-to-14 — sitting on the sidewalk. Al Azzawi was also there. One deputy talked to the boys while another talked with Al Azzawi.

The boys told deputies they were toilet-papering the home and drove away when someone from inside came out and yelled at them.

They said were still in the area when a man driving a tow truck, later identified as Al Azzawi, pulled up next to their car, blocked it from moving, and got out of the truck holding a handgun.

They teens told deputies Al Azzawi pointed the gun at them and ordered them to get out of the car or he would shoot them.

Once outside, they said Al Azzawi grabbed one of the boys and took turns pointing the handgun at all three.

The boys said another man showed up and worked to calm Al Azzawi down.  The boys said Al Azzawi threatened to shoot them if they didn’t drive back to the home.

Deputies then interviewed Al Azzawi, who told them he pointed an unloaded handgun at the kids.

Deputies continued to collect evidence at the scene. They then arrested Al Azzawi and booked him in to the Ada County Jail. He was released late Tuesday after posting a $75,000 bond.

Deputies released the teens to the custody of their parents.

The crime of aggravated assault is punishable by up to five years in prison.
