Initial/New Applications

Proof of firearms training is required for all initial Ada County applications.  The application must provide documentation that this training has been completed.   Firearms training must be completed in a classroom setting.

  1. Please use the appointment calendar to schedule an appointment. When you get to the calendar, please select the “Concealed Weapons & SOR” to find an open appointment time.
  2. You will need to fill out the Concealed Weapons Application PDF.  Bring this completed application to Ada County Driver’s License Office 400 N Benjamin Ln #101 Boise, Idaho 83704.
  3. We will copy your firearms training documentation for our files.
  4. Your fingerprints will be taken.
  5. Bring a valid form of identification. A state-issued driver’s license or identification card is preferred.
  6. Initial application fee of $56.10 is due at the time of the application.
  7. Background checks take approximately 90 days.
  8. We will contact you by mail advising if you have been approved or denied.

*Please note: the application CANNOT be submitted online.  You MUST apply in person at our Driver’s License Office located at 400 Benjamin Ln #101 Boise, Idaho 83704.

*The Idaho Sheriff’s Association offers an online handgun safety training course that satisfies the firearms familiarity requirements for a standard Idaho concealed weapons permit. https://www.idahocwl.org.
