Public Hearing – Greenbelt Speed Limit Ordinance Proposal

Tuesday August 13, 2024 – 6:00 PM
1st Floor Public Hearing Room – Ada County Courthouse

If you love using the Boise River Greenbelt you know the number and types of users has increased dramatically. Cyclists, walkers, runners, dog owners, parents with strollers, people commuting to work on their bikes, it is a wonderful community asset with a lot of dedicated users. Along with a marked increase in traffic of all kinds has come numerous instances of uncontrolled speed causing accidents and making some users feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

That’s why city and county officials have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that includes setting a speed limit of 10 mph unless a different speed is specifically posted. The county is also considering an ordinance amending county code to add the definition of control of speed on the Boise River Greenbelt.

A lot of people have differing views on a greenbelt speed limit of 10mph. That’s why we want to hear from you. The Ada County Commissioners are holding a public hearing on the proposed speed limit change Tuesday August 13, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. in the 1st Floor Public Hearing Room of the Ada County Courthouse, 200 W. Front St., Boise, Idaho 83702. Everyone is invited to attend and provide testimony. The public hearing will also be streamed live on Ada County’s YouTube.
