District Public Defender Applicants Announced

Ada County is publicizing a list of people who have applied for the position of 4th Judicial District Public Defender. The position was created due to the change in state law that moves the Public Defender’s office, which is now a county function, under the jurisdiction of the State of Idaho.

Per Idaho Code §19-6007 the 4th Judicial District’s Magistrates Commission has the duty to recruit applicants, review candidates and hire the district public defender who meets the qualifications listed in the chapter.

In October 2024 Public Defender offices currently under county jurisdictions in Idaho will become part of a new state office. With that comes the requirement that each of the state’s seven judicial districts have a District Public Defender.

Please see the list of applicants as well as the related statutes.
