LYDLE fire burns 100 acres in southeast Ada County, juvenile cited

On June 28, 2024, at about 4pm, Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to assist the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the area of E. Plexi Ct./S. Leeds Ln. in southeast Boise for a report of a grass fire.

Preliminary information indicates that a 16-year-old juvenile launched a mortar-style firework, causing the dry grass and brush in the area to ignite. The juvenile was with several friends at the time of the incident. They immediately called 911 to report the fire. The group attempted to extinguish the fire but were unsuccessful.

BLM mapped the fire at approximately 100 acres. The juvenile was cited and released for misdemeanor Firing Timber or Prairie Land (I.C. 18-7004).

Though setting off fireworks on BLM land is always prohibited, we would like to remind everyone about the Ada County Fireworks Ban, which prohibits the use of fireworks in unincorporated Ada County outside of fire protection districts. Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor. For an interactive fireworks ban map, go here. To read more about Ada County Ordinance 5-6-7, go here.
