Eagle Police are working to identify man who broke into cars and stole credit cards

Detectives are looking for a man who broke into two cars in Eagle this fall, stole credit cards from inside, and used them at stores a short time later.

The first vehicle break-in occurred just after midnight on Nov. 13 in a parking lot off East Riverside Drive in Eagle.

A thief stole a wallet from inside the car and began using credit cards about an hour later. The victim found out when they got an automatic notification about several purchases having just been made at a Garden City convenience store.

The victim contacted the credit card company immediately and froze the account.

A short time later, the same man tried to use one of the stolen cards at a different Garden City convenience store to buy lottery tickets and doughnuts. The store clerk rejected the card, and the man dropped his purchases and left the store.

The second break-in occurred between 7:30-to-8:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 at a parking lot on E. Colchester Drive in Eagle. The thief broke the side window of the car and stole a purse inside. A short time later, he used a credit card at Eagle area big-box store before it could be cancelled.

Surveillance video and physical description strongly indicates the same man is responsible for both break-ins.

The pictures we have aren’t the best, but we hope someone recognizes the burglar. He was wearing a black Ecko Unltd vest with “UNLTD” on the back when he used the credit card for the second burglary.

We are asking anyone with info to call Det. Nick Shafer at (208) 577-3707 or send an email to [email protected]

While the best way to avoid being the victim of theft is to make sure your car or truck is locked at all times, it isn’t a guarantee — especially if someone can see a purse, wallet, or any other valuables in plain sight. So please take that stuff with you wherever you go. Then make sure to lock up.

Most vehicle theft is a crime of opportunity, so let’s all work together to take those opportunities away.
