Canyon County duo charged with robbery in connection with Air Jordan holdup

Two Canyon County men accused of stealing four boxes of vintage Air Jordan sneakers during a late-night holdup in a south Boise neighborhood park are being held in the Ada County Jail.

Ismael A. Aceves, 20, of Nampa, and Danny Borges Santiago, 19, of Caldwell are both charged with felony counts of robbery and grand theft in connection with the incident.

Deputies began their investigation just after midnight Monday after a 17-year-old Boise man told deputies he arranged to sell four pairs of vintage Air Jordan sneakers to another man at a community park in the Maple Grove Road/Desert Avenue area.

The teen told deputies he put the four pairs of shoes (still in their boxes) on the ground and waited for the buyer to arrive. That’s when a car arrived with two men who got out and said they were going to take the shoes and not pay.

The teen said one of the men, later identified as Borges Santiago, swung a closed fist at him while the other man, later identified as Aceves, grabbed the four boxes of the shoes off the ground and put them in the car.

The teen said both men then got in a drove away. That’s when he called dispatch to report what happened.

A description of both robbers and the car they were driving went over the radio.

An Ada County Sheriff’s deputy found the car a brief time later moving at a high rate of speed on Interstate 84.

That deputy followed the car as it went into Canyon County.

With the assistance of Nampa Police and the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy pulled the car over on Karcher Boulevard.

It was during the traffic stop where the deputy saw several boxes of Air Jordans in the back seat.

Aceves and Borges Santiago were eventually arrested and taken the Canyon County Jail. They were transferred to the Ada County Jail later Tuesday afternoon, where they are being held on $100,000 bonds each.
