29-year-old Boise man who attacked Eagle Police and ACSO jail deputies Wednesday is charged with multiple felonies

A 29-year-old Boise man who fought with Eagle Police during a DUI stop Wednesday and then later attacked an Ada County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy is being held on a $30,000 bond.

Stephen R. Duckworth is charged with two felony counts of assault and battery (on law enforcement personnel) and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and DUI.

The ordeal started just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when Eagle Police investigated a 911 call about a possibly drunk driver – later identified as Duckworth — who passed another car on the right shoulder of the road and was driving erratically while going south on Idaho 55.

That caller also told police they followed Duckworth to a local gas station and watched him park and then stumble out of the car as he walked inside.

Officers arrived at the gas station to find Duckworth had returned to his car, which was running.

An officer walked up to talk to Duckworth, who refused to answer questions about his driving or provide his drivers license. He also refused to get out of the car and rolled up his window.

At least two other Eagle Police officers asked Duckworth to get out of the car, but he refused. That’s when they told him were going to arrest him. An officer broke out the passenger side window and unlocked the door.

A police sergeant opened the driver’s side door and asked Duckworth to get out. After a few seconds, Duckworth jumped out and started throwing punches at an officer standing nearby.

A fight ensued as that officer worked to restrain Duckworth, who tried to bite the officer as they grappled and went to the ground. Two other officers used their Tasers on Duckworth before all three were able to get him to stop fighting and under control.

The Eagle Police officer Duckworth initially attacked was bleeding and had visible facial injuries. The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

At that point, Eagle Police arrested Duckworth and took him to the Ada County Jail, where he later attacked two detention deputies as they were trying to book him in.

One of those detention deputies also sustained cuts to the face and head area before they were able to restrain Duckworth.

The crime of assault and battery upon certain personnel is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
