15-year-old arrested in Eagle e-bike pursuit

Over the last several weeks, Eagle Police have received numerous reports of riders on throttle powered electric dirt bikes (e-bike) riding recklessly on city sidewalks and streets and riding through Guerber Park at high rates of speed during soccer games. On a separate occasion, an Eagle Police deputy attempted to speak with one of the riders, who told the deputy he couldn’t catch him and rode away.

On June 6th, 2024, at about 2pm, a deputy conducting extra patrol at the Eagle Sports Complex saw two males on e-bikes matching the description from the incidents mentioned above. When deputies attempted to intercept them, the riders split up in different directions.

An Eagle Police deputy patrolling in the area of N. Horseshoe Bend Rd. and E. Floating Feather Rd. saw one of the riders riding on the shoulder adjacent to N. Horseshoe Bend Rd. When the deputy attempted to stop the rider, he looked at the deputy, gave the deputy “the finger”, and ignored the deputy’s lights and sirens. The rider drove away from the deputy and accelerated to speeds of 10-30mph over posted speed limits.

Eventually, the rider slowed down enough to where the deputy was able to maneuver his patrol vehicle and the e-bike to the shoulder. The rider was then taken into custody without incident.

The rider was identified as a 15-year-old juvenile male who did not possess a valid driver’s license. The juvenile was subsequently booked into the Ada County Juvenile Detention Center for felony fleeing and eluding. The e-bike was a Talaria Sting MX3, which can reach speeds of 65mph. The e-bike was not registered to be on the roadway.

While other deputies contacted the first rider, ACSO drone operators launched an aerial drone in an attempt to locate the other rider. Deputies observed the other rider drive through Dry Creek Cemetery, riding over approximately 100 graves while attempting to evade deputies. Deputies discontinued the pursuit. The rider continued to drive recklessly, eventually crossing lanes on Highway 55, going into oncoming lanes and traveling at excessive speeds.

The second rider was later identified as a 15-year-old juvenile male. Charges have been routed to the Ada County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office for review.
