Ada County man arrested on aggravated assault charges

An Ada County man was booked into the Ada County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault after pointing a gun at a Sheriff’s deputy, forcing the officer to fire his weapon, this afternoon.

Just after 2:45pm Monday, deputies were called to a home in the 6200 block of West Long Branch to check on a man that a relative reported was threatening to harm himself. Two officers arrived to talk to the man and another person who was inside the home with him. Within seconds of making contact with the man, the 57-year-old pointed a gun at the deputy.

The deputy fired his service weapon at the 57-year-old, hitting the man once in the shoulder. Deputies took the man into custody and paramedics were immediately called to treat the man’s injury.

The suspect, Kenneth Frank Morehouse, 57, of Boise, was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a single gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was released from the hospital a few hours later  and was booked into the Ada County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault, a felony.

The officer involved in this incident, Deputy Cory Feldman, has been with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office since 2001. He became a patrol deputy in September 2006. This is the first critical incident Deputy Feldman has been involved in.

All uses of lethal force by a law enforcement officer are independently investigated by the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force. Boise Police is the agency leading the CITF investigation.
