Waste Types

ORDINARY WASTE
Waste that is generated during the course of daily living or business. This waste can include food waste, household waste, construction/demolition waste, yard waste, and other waste that is not being reused, recycled, or composted. Ordinary waste can go into the landfill. These waste types are compacted and covered at the active face of the landfill. The decomposition of organic matter in ordinary waste types contributes to the generation of Landfill Gas.

WASTE DIVERSION AND RECYCLING
Includes waste that can be repurposed for another use through reuse, recycling, or composting. This includes appliances, metal, electronics, clean wood, cardboard, and tires. The Ada County Landfill has a designated Recovery & Diversion Area where customers can deposit certain items to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill.

HAZARDOUS WASTE
Any substance that is flammable, combustible, corrosive, explosive, reactive, or toxic. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is set up to accept hazardous waste from Ada County residents and Very Small Quantity Business Generators. Ada County residents also have the option to leave their hazardous materials at the mobile collection sites. There is no charge to deposit Household Hazardous Waste for Ada County residents.

Asbestos materials disposals require 24-hour notice with an appointment.
