The project will remodel and reconfigure office space for the Public Defender’s Office, the Auditor’s Office, the Drug Court Program, and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The project will make way for future space needed to support additional judges and a new courtroom to be constructed in fiscal year 2014/2015.

The areas will be constructed in an occupied building and adjacent to fully functioning departments. Therefore, the consultant must pay special attention to the building’s indoor air quality requirements and account for the effects that construction could have on the building’s occupants such as increased noise and safety considerations.

  • Area 1, consisting of 4,000 square feet, will provide office and work areas for Drug Court staff and other specialty court services.
  • Area 2, consisting of 1,000 square feet, is the demolition of existing facilities and construction of a new hallway and four new offices for the Public Defender’s Office.
  • Area 3, consisting of 2,000 square feet, is the demolition of existing facilities and construction of five new offices in the Auditor’s area.
  • Area 4, consisting of 1,200 square feet, is the construction of five new offices within the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
  • The design concept will maximize sustainability in all five of the categories outlined in the LEED Green Building Rating System including sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, indoor environmental quality, and materials and resource efficiency. (LEED certification will not be part of the project.)
  • Energy performance will be designed to be approximately 21% above ASHRAE 90.1-2004 standard.
  • Indoor environmental quality measures will include the use of low VOC adhesives, carpets, paints, and composite woods.
  • Demo material will be recycled to the maximum extent possible.
  • New building materials must contain recycled content wherever feasible.
  • Building materials must be locally sourced wherever possible.
