On Path to Clean Energy Goals, Ada County Releases Report on County Operations Emissions

This report includes the greenhouse gas emissions from Ada County’s buildings and facilities, vehicle fleet, employee commute, and solid waste facilities for 2009, 2019 and 2020. The information gathered in this report will help residents and local officials drive Ada County toward achieving its goal of 100% Clean Energy by 2045. With extensive and thorough data, Ada County will continue to lead in creating and maintaining a more sustainable community.

Ada County has a responsibility to keep its operations in line with public interests, safety and equity. The need for a comprehensive emissions accounting, as well as a true emissions baseline, became apparent with the adoption of the Clean Energy Resolution in 2019.

Ada County has a long history as a local leader in energy efficiency. This report shows that Ada County has been on this path even prior to the 2019 Clean Energy Resolution, going back to its landmark 2003 Green Building Resolution, along with numerous ENERGY STAR awards and LEED certifications for Ada County facilities. Currently, the annual Strategic Plan for Sustainable Operations and Resource Conservation (SORC) lays the foundation for a sustainable transformation at Ada County.

This report was developed with support from ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability which is a global network of more than 2,500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development.
