Location:  E Warm Springs Avenue, Boise, ID
Project Size:  1.8 miles of existing greenbelt pathway
Design Engineer:  to be determined
Schedule:  June 2015 to April 2016

This project will design and reconstruct a 1.8-mile section of the Greenbelt pathway near Warm Springs Avenue and Highway 21 in Ada County.  The current pathway is eroding and in major need of repair.  It is constrained by topography, with an open canal on one side which occasionally floods the pathway creating closures and hazards, and a steep eroding bank on the other side.

This segment of the greenbelt is critical for bicyclists and pedestrians who rely on this pathway as a safe route from Eckert Road to Highway 21 along a busy 2-lane stretch of Warm Springs Avenue that does not have bike lanes or sidewalks.  The project includes piping a portion of the canal to enable the entire path to be widened from 8′ to 10′.  Covering the canal will increase usability and safety by providing the existing deteriorating pathway with a wider and smoother surface.

  • Improve a 1.8-mile section of the Greenbelt along E Warm Springs Avenue
  • Increase capacity and safety by widening the pathway from 8′ to 10′
  • Improve connectivity and mobility on the overall Greenbelt system
  • Covering the canal will increase usability and safety
  • Will be widened for increased mobility of bicycle and pedestrian traffic
  • Allows users to stay a safer distance from the dangerously steep bank
  • Will provide an aged and deteriorating route to be reconstructed with a safe smooth surface
