Information for Victims of Domestic Abuse, Sexual Assault and Stalking

If you are the victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, or stalking you can:

  • Ada County Victim Services Center: 417 S. 6th Street, Boise, Idaho 83702; www.adacountyvictimcenter.org or by phone: 208-577-4400 (M-F 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Forensic exams and law enforcement are available 24/7 through emergency services The victim services center is a one-stop triage and support center assisting those who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual assault, elder abuse, child abuse, stalking and human trafficking. Ada County Victim Services Center offers stabilizing and emergency services like medical forensic exams and follow-up care, counseling, case management, safety planning, educational classes, and other social services. On-site assistance with protection orders and more.
  • WCA (Women’s and Children’s Alliance): 720 W. Washington Street, Boise, Idaho 83702; www.wcaboise.org or by phone: 24/7 208-343-7025 or 208-345-7273 WCA Court Advocates are at the Ada County Courthouse and Ada County Victim Services Center every day of the week to assist those requesting civil protection orders. Additionally, Court Advocates can refer you to the WCA’s ongoing services, including shelter, counseling, case management, support groups, financial empowerment and legal advocacy.

PURSUE CRIMINAL CHARGES

You can file a police report and ask that it be sent to the city or county prosecuting attorney. Those offices review investigations to determine whether charges meet the legal standards for prosecution.

PURSUE CIVIL REMEDIES

You also have the right to sue for losses suffered as a result of the abuse, including medical and moving expenses, loss of earnings or support, and other out-of-pocket expenses for injuries sustained and damage to your property. This can be done without an attorney in small claims court if the total amount claimed is less than five thousand dollars ($5,000).

Your petition will be heard in the magistrate court requesting an order for protection from domestic abuse which could include any of the following: (a) an order restraining your abuser from further acts of abuse; (b) an order directing your abuser to leave your household; (c) an order preventing your abuser from entering your residence, school, business, or place of employment; (d) an order awarding you or the other parent custody of or visitation with your minor child or children; and (e) an order restraining your abuser from molesting or interfering with minor children in your custody.

VINE stands for “Victim Information and Notification Everyday:” notification system designed to provide victims with up-to-date offender status and case information.

Idaho CVCP provides assistance to victims of crimes for certain costs related to the criminal activity.
