RE: | State v. Eava June-McCarthy – Sentencing |
BOISE – Eava June-McCarthy, 20, was sentenced Friday to prison for the murder of a 42-year-old man.
Ms. June-McCarthy pled guilty in March 2022 to the first-degree murder of Gamaliel Nava. The victim was stabbed in the eye and shot in a Boise hotel room in October 2020 during an attempted robbery. An investigation by Boise Police detectives led to the charges against the defendant.
As part of a stipulated plea agreement, the defendant pled guilty to first-degree murder, and her second charge of destruction of evidence was dismissed.
Honorable Ada County District Judge Michael Reardon sentenced Ms. June-McCarthy to life imprisonment with 18 years fixed before being eligible for parole, which followed the conditions of the stipulated plea agreement.
“I extend my condolences to Mr. Nava’s family,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “Thank you to the Boise Police Detectives’ hard work on this investigation, which helped my office ensure justice was served.”
