RE: State v. Eric Steiner Sentencing

BOISE – Eric Steiner was sentenced Friday to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife.

On March 5, 2019 Mr. Steiner hit his wife, Christine Tolmie-Steiner, in the face with a crowbar, and
then shot and killed her. Mr. Steiner was arrested for the murder when he called dispatch about six
hours after shooting her to report he had killed his wife.

Honorable Ada County District Judge Samuel Hoagland described the murder as “cold-hearted” and
“cold blooded,” and said the defendant shows “no real remorse” and “accepts no real responsibility.”

Judge Hoagland ordered Mr. Steiner to fixed life in prison, which the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office
also recommended.

Mr. Steiner pled guilty in February 2020 to the charge of first-degree murder.

“I want to send my condolences to the victim’s family and thank them for their patience during a
lengthy court process,” said Jan Bennetts, Ada County Prosecutor. “Thank you also to the Meridian
Police Department for its hard work on this case.”
