RE: State v. Daniel Bondar – Sentencing

BOISE – Daniel Bondar, 32, was sentenced Monday to prison for shooting and injuring his ex-girlfriend.

In March 2021, Mr. Bondar showed up to the Boise residence of his ex-girlfriend, and demanded she enter his vehicle. While Mr. Bondar drove the vehicle, he was arguing at and threatening the victim with a gun before shooting and injuring her. The defendant eventually dropped the victim off at a nearby hospital and fled the scene. The victim recovered from her injuries.

Mr. Bondar pled guilty in September 2022 to three felonies: aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and destruction of evidence.

The defendant has a lengthy criminal history, including violent offenses of attempted strangulation, aggravated assault, and intimidating a witness. The prosecution requested the maximum sentence for both counts 1 and 2 to run consecutively, asking for a 15-year sentence with 10 years fixed before being eligible for parole.

“You are someone that society needs to be protected from,” said Honorable Ada County District Judge Michael Reardon during Mr. Bondar’s sentencing hearing.

Judge Reardon sentenced Mr. Bondar to 15 years imprisonment with 10 years fixed and issued a 20 year no contact order be put in place with the victim.

“I want to acknowledge the victim’s courage throughout this case,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “Thank you to the Boise Police Detectives’ thorough investigation in this case, which allowed my office to ensure just was served.”
