RE: State v. Trevor Dyer – Sentencing

BOISE – On Tuesday, 32-year-old Trevor Dyer was sentenced to prison for battering two individuals,
as well as a responding Meridian Police Officer on Christmas Eve in 2022.

On Dec. 24, 2022, a person inside a Meridian residence called dispatch to report Mr. Dyer had beaten
two individuals known to him, a woman in her 60s and a man who was passed out asleep on the
couch. A Meridian Police Officer arrived on scene responding to that 911 call, when the defendant
ambushed the officer and repeatedly punched him in the face. All three victims were treated for their
injuries at a local hospital.

The Honorable Ada County District Judge Jonathan Medema sentenced Mr. Dyer to serve up to 30
years in prison with 21 years fixed before being eligible for parole.

“I want people to understand when the officers show up at their door, even when you know that
you’re likely to go to jail, that it’s going to be worse for you if you fight with the police because that
puts everyone at risk of greater harm,” said Judge Medema during Dyer’s sentencing.

Judge Medema also said during the sentencing that the officer showed “significant restraint” and
“respect” to Mr. Dyer even after he was attacked by the defendant.

Mr. Dyer was arrested and charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery, one count of felony
aggravated battery on a peace officer and an enhancement for causing great bodily injury. He pled
guilty to all four charges in March 2023.

“I recognize how difficult it can be for victims of interpersonal violence to come forward and the
trauma it causes,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “These calls for service are often some
of the most dangerous calls law enforcement respond to. I respect the officer’s courage in putting
himself in harm’s way to protect our community, and thank him for his selfless service.”
