RE: | State v. Juan Santos-Quintero – Indictment |
BOISE – An Ada County grand jury indicted a 27-year-old man of first-degree murder for the death of a 26-year-old Idaho Falls man.
Juan Santos-Quintero is accused of attacking the victim at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution on June 14 of this year. The victim later died at a local hospital from his injuries sustained in the attack.
The prosecutor’s office received the investigative reports from the Idaho State Police on August 15. Mr. Santos-Quintero was indicted by a grand jury on Sept. 19. Indictments are sealed until a warrant is served on the defendant and the first court appearance is held, which was held yesterday at 1:30 p.m. The defendant’s next court date is set for Oct. 23 before the Honorable Ada County District Judge Steven Hippler.
Idaho law provides that the maximum punishment for a conviction of first-degree murder is death or life imprisonment with a minimum of no less than 10 years imprisonment.
Santos-Quintero is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
