RE: State v. Jeremy Waste – Sentencing

BOISE – On Monday, 30-year-old Jeremy Waste was sentenced to serve up to 30 years in prison for stabbing his father, and threatening police officers with a knife.

In November 2022, Boise Police Officers were searching for Mr. Waste, who had a warrant for aggravated battery for an incident where the defendant attacked his father unprovoked by stabbing him in the back of the head. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Mr. Waste then attempted to rob a bank, but was unsuccessful. When officers located Mr. Waste, he charged at them with a knife, forcing an officer to shoot him.

The Honorable Ada County District Judge Michael Reardon sentenced Mr. Waste to a unified sentence of 30 years imprisonment, with 10 years fixed before being eligible for parole.

“I first want to thank the victim’s family for their courage and patience through the court process,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “The defendant’s actions put many in our community at risk, and I commend the responding Boise Police Officers who attempted to peacefully deescalate the situation, and used their quick thinking to keep our community safe.”

Mr. Waste was sentenced for aggravated battery with an enhancement for using a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault on law enforcement with an enhancement for using a deadly weapon. His remaining charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
