RE: State v. Emerson Buck IV – Sentencing

BOISE – Emerson Buck IV, 31, was sentenced Friday to serve up to life in prison for the first-degree murder of his uncle.

The Honorable Ada County District Judge Jason Scott sentenced Mr. Buck to life imprisonment with 40 years to be served in prison before being eligible for parole.

The evidence presented at the defendant’s trial in May established Mr. Buck slashed and stabbed his uncle in their Garden City residence in January 2020. The defendant then fled the scene and eluded police on foot before being apprehended by law enforcement shortly after the crime he committed.

A jury found Mr. Buck guilty of first-degree murder with an enhancement for using a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime, and resisting and obstructing an officer.

“Thank you to the Garden City Police Department for their thorough investigation, which allowed my office to ensure justice was served,” said Jan Bennetts, Ada County Prosecutor.
