RE: State v. Cecilio Camacho-Montoya – Sentencing

BOISE – On Wednesday, March 16, Cecilio Camacho-Montoya, 34, of Mexico, was sentenced to prison
for causing a fatal collision at the Idaho 55/44 highway intersection near Eagle.

Honorable District Court Judge Steven Hippler sentenced Mr. Camacho-Montoya to serve up to 15
years in prison, with 7.5 years fixed before being eligible for parole. The defendant’s license was also
suspended for his lifetime. Mr. Camacho-Montoya was in the U.S. unlawfully at the time of the crash
and will be subject to deportation after his sentence is complete.

On May 19, 2021, Mr. Camacho-Montoya was driving under the influence of alcohol in a Freightliner
semi-truck on Idaho State Highway 55 when he drove through a red light at a high rate of speed
through the Highway 44 intersection. The defendant collided with a Ford pickup truck driven by
22-year-old Connor Holcomb who was driving on East Highway 44. Holcomb died later that day
from injuries sustained in the crash.

Mr. Camacho-Montoya failed field sobriety tests at the scene of the crash and registered a blood
alcohol content level of 0.222, and 0.214, which is nearly 5.5 times the legal limit of 0.04 set for
commercial vehicle drivers. He was arrested at the scene and charged with felony vehicular
manslaughter, which he pled guilty to in November 2021.

“I express my deepest condolences to Connor’s family, and I appreciate their strength during this
case,” said Jan Bennetts, Ada County Prosecutor. “Thank you to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for
their thorough investigation in this crash.”
