RE: | State v. Jorge Lossi – Sentencing |
BOISE – Jorge Lossi, 40, will serve up to life in prison for the second-degree murder of 42-year-old Brian Hamblet.
Mr. Lossi was on parole during the evening of Aug. 19, 2022 when he repeatedly stabbed Mr. Hamblet. The defendant and victim were housemates at a residence on S. Orchard Street near W. Franklin Road. Mr. Hamblet died from his injuries at the scene.
On Monday, the Honorable Ada County District Judge Derrick O’Neill followed the Rule 11 Plea Agreement, sentencing Mr. Lossi to life imprisonment with 25 years fixed before being eligible for parole. The defendant pled guilty in September to second-degree murder.
Mr. Lossi has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2006, including convictions of aggravated battery and battery on correctional officers while previously incarcerated. At the sentencing, Judge O’Neill believed efforts to rehabilitate the defendant had been “exhausted.”
“This sentence provides protection to the community, as the defendant has continually resorted to violence while incarcerated and while living in the community,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “Thank you to the Boise Police Violent Crimes Detectives whose hard work on this investigation allowed my office and the court to ensure justice was served in this case.”
