RE: | State v. Jonathan Manee – Sentencing |
BOISE – On Monday, Jonathan Manee was sentenced to serve up to 25 years in prison for pointing and threatening a Boise police officer with a firearm.
In February 2022, dispatch received reports of a broken-down vehicle at an intersection on Fairview Avenue in Boise. That vehicle belonged to Mr. Manee and a Boise police officer arrived to assist him. The officer offered help to the defendant and was attempting to get him out of the roadway when Mr. Manee pulled a gun out of his pocket, and began walking toward the responding officer with the gun pointed at him. This resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The officer was not injured in the shooting. Mr. Manee was injured.
The Honorable Ada County District Judge Michael Reardon sentenced Mr. Manee, 26, to serve up to 25 years in prison with 15 years fixed before being eligible for parole.
In May 2023, a jury found Mr. Manee guilty of assault upon a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon enhancement.
“The responding Boise police officer arrived at this call – like he does every day – ready to serve and assist a person who needed help,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “Unfortunately, the defendant chose to threaten the officer with a gun, putting the officer and every person at that busy intersection in danger. I’m grateful for the officer’s quick judgment and commend his actions while navigating this dangerous situation.”
