RE: | State v. Joel Guerrero Sentencing |
BOISE – On Thursday, March 3, 49-year-old Joel Guerrero was sentenced to life imprisonment for
rape.
On April 27, 2020 Mr. Guerrero went to the Boise residence of a woman he knew, forced his way
inside where he held the victim against her will by tying her up, threatening her, and repeatedly raped
her. Prosecutors charged Mr. Guerrero with rape, forcible penetration, and first-degree kidnapping.
Mr. Guerrero has an extensive criminal history, including felony convictions of aggravated assault in
1993, lewd conduct of a minor in 1995, and witness intimidation in 2012.
Honorable Ada County District Judge Jason D. Scott said at the defendant’s sentencing that, “society
cannot tolerate the substantial risk that you will reoffend in this sort of way again.” He ordered Mr.
Guerrero to a fixed life sentence.
In January 2022, Mr. Guerrero pled guilty to the charge of rape. As part of his plea, the remaining
charges in this case, and a pending video voyeurism case involving the same victim were dismissed.
“I want to thank the victim in this case for her courage and bravery throughout the court process,”
said Jan Bennetts, Ada County Prosecutor. “Thank you also to the Boise Police detectives who
investigated this case, which helped my office ensure justice was served.”
