RE: State v. David Randall – Sentencing

BOISE – David Randall, 60, was sentenced Friday for the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend Darla Fletcher.

The Honorable Ada County District Judge Steven Hippler sentenced Mr. Randall to life imprisonment, with 25 years fixed before being eligible for parole. This was the state’s sentencing recommendation based on a plea agreement from the defendant’s guilty plea in December 2021 to first-degree murder.

“The defendant presents grave danger to the community,” said Judge Hippler during Friday’s sentencing, noting that Mr. Randall’s lack of remorse for the murder was striking.

Mr. Randall was arrested Dec. 16, 2019 for the murder of Ms. Fletcher at his Boise residence. The defendant and victim had recently ended their relationship, when Ms. Fletcher drove to their
previously shared residence to collect some belongings. When she entered the house, Mr. Randall attacked, tortured, stabbed, and beat Ms. Fletcher to death.

“I extend my deepest condolences to Ms. Fletchers’ family and friends,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “This brutal domestic homicide has weighed on the victim’s family and friends, our
office, and the community for over three years now. I’m proud of the hard work performed by my trial team and the Boise Police Department’s homicide detectives, which ensured justice was
ultimately served in this case.”
