RE: State v. Jim E. Neaderhiser sentencing

BOISE – A 48-year-old Boise man will serve up to 10 years in prison for exploiting a vulnerable adult.

Jim E. Neaderhiser, and his then-fiancé, Linda “Deann” Bassett, had been financially exploiting an elderly man known to them for a number of years prior to their arrest in April 2018. The two defendants gained access to the victim’s finances and began to travel, fund businesses and pay legal expenses. While the victim was living in terminal care, the co-defendants continued to exploit the man, taking out home equity loans against the victim’s residence.

Mr. Neaderhiser was convicted by a jury trial in November 2019 of exploiting a vulnerable adult. He fled after the conviction and received two failure two appear charges when he failed to attend his scheduled court hearings.

He was taken back into custody in March 2020 and sentenced April 22 by Ada County District Judge Thomas F. Neville to up to 10 years in prison, with 1.5 years fixed in prison before being eligible for parole.

Co-defendant Bassett pleaded guilty and was sentenced in early 2019 for the same crime and up to 10 years in prison.

“This case raises awareness about elder abuse crimes. The Boise Police Department’s hard work in this investigation allowed my office to ensure that justice was served,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan M. Bennetts.
