RE: State v. Blake Emerson – sentencing

BOISE – A 22-year-old Meridian man will serve up to 10 years in prison for felony domestic violence he committed earlier this year.

Blake Emerson was arrested by Meridian Police Officers on February 9, 2020 for felony attempted strangulation, domestic battery with traumatic injury and misdemeanor malicious injury to property after entering a woman’s home uninvited and strangling her to the point she became unconscious.

“This offense is rather shocking to the court,” Ada County District Judge James S. Cawthon said at Wednesday’s sentencing, “The degree of violence is extremely dangerous and potentially fatal.”

At the time of the offense, Mr. Emerson was serving felony probation for grand theft and delivery of a controlled substance. He pleaded guilty to felony domestic battery in June 2020.

Judge Cawthon sentenced Mr. Emerson to 10 years in prison, with three years fixed before being eligible for parole and ordered the defendant to have no contact with the victim for the length of the sentence.

“Thank you to the Meridian Police Officers who investigated these crimes. Their hard work helped my office ensure justice was served and helps make the community safer,” said Jan M. Bennetts, Ada County Prosecutor.
