RE: State v. Ki So – Sentencing

BOISE – A 51-year-old man will serve jail and probation time for stealing over $70,000 from his elderly parents.

Ki So, currently of Florida, was arrested for both grand theft and felony exploitation of a vulnerable adult in October 2019. He pleaded guilty to grand theft in October 2020.

Ada County District Judge Nancy Baskin sentenced Mr. So to serve 30 days in jail and 10 years of probation for grand theft. He was granted an opportunity at a withheld judgement, meaning the Court will permit him to complete his probation without imposing a judgment of conviction, but any probation violation will expose him to be resentenced. Mr. So was also ordered to pay $72,458.32 in restitution to the victims.

The investigation found that in February 2019, Mr. So abused his authority under a power of attorney over his parents to transfer large sums of money to himself. Several of these transfers occurred immediately following his father’s death. In April 2019, Mr. So manipulated a signature from his elderly mother, who suffered from dementia, to transfer her home to Mr. So for a $1 sale price to circumvent his eviction from the residence.

Judge Baskin described the defendant’s actions as both “legally and morally wrong.”
