RE: State v. Justice Bowie sentencing

BOISE – The fourth and final defendant in a stabbing case from March 2019 has been sentenced to prison.

Justice Bowie, 21, was arrested in March 2019, along with three co-defendants for stabbing and beating a woman in the Boise foothills. The woman survived her injuries.

Mr. Bowie pleaded guilty in August 2019 to felony aggravated battery. Though he did not know the victim prior to the attack, he was the one who found a weapon and stabbed the victim with it repeatedly, according to information from Wednesday’s sentencing.

Ada County Prosecutors asked for a 15-year sentence, with 10 years of those fixed.

Ada County District Judge Deborah Bail sentenced Mr. Bowie to a 15-year sentence with five years to be served before being eligible for parole.

“This case is very serious and it’s very serious because the nature of the attack on the victim was such that the victim could have died,” Judge Bail said during sentencing.

Judge Bail stated that though co-defendant Cody Baker was the leader of the group who attacked the victim, “Mr. Bowie had no reason to dislike the victim himself” and had not known her prior to the attack.

Co-defendants, Cody Baker, Brianna Brown, and Kevin Ivey were all convicted of aiding and abetting an aggravated battery and have been sentenced for their part in the crime.
