RE: State v. Reginald Burley – Sentencing

BOISE – On Tuesday, 58-year-old Reginald Burley was sentenced to serve 30-years fixed and up to
life in prison for a rape that occurred nearly six years ago in Boise.

Reginald Burley, who was 53 at the time of the crime, was indicted by a grand jury for rape and
first-degree kidnapping shortly after the crimes were reported in November 2014. A warrant was
issued for Mr. Burley’s arrest. Ada County Prosecutors learned that Mr. Burley had been arrested in
January 2015 in his home state of California. Following his sentencing there for kidnapping a victim
under the age of 14, he was extradited back to Ada County to face these local charges.

In January, Mr. Burley was found guilty by a jury of raping an adult victim in her own residence in
Boise.

Mr. Burley has an extensive criminal history out of California, including sexual assault, kidnapping,
robbery and drug offenses.

“You present an extreme danger not only to reoffend but to reoffend in a particularly aggravated
and serious way,” said Ada County District Judge Patrick J. Miller during the defendant’s sentencing.
“I find the likelihood that you would ever be able to return to the community safely as very low.”

Judge Miller ordered imposed life in prison, with 30 years to be served before Mr. Burley is eligible
for parole. A no contact order with the victim was put in place until 2050.

“I appreciate the victim having the courage to come forward,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan M.
Bennetts. “Thank you to the Boise Police Department for their hard work on a case that took several
years to bring to trial.”
