RE: State v. Anthony Alcala Sentencing

BOISE – A 21-year-old man who shot and killed a Boise woman and injured two others last year was sentenced Friday to prison.

Anthony Alcala, of Boise, was arrested and charged in April 2019 for second-degree murder with an enhancement for using a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated battery. In December 2019, he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and the enhancement and aggravated battery charges.

According to court documents, Mr. Alcala fired a gun during a physical altercation outside a Boise residence on the night of April 14, 2019. He shot and killed 19-year-old Briana Martinez and injured Natalie Martinez and another man.

On Friday, Ada County District Judge Samuel Hoagland sentenced Mr. Alcala to a unified 50-year prison sentence, with 20 years to be served before being eligible for parole.

“I’d like to express my condolences to all of the victims in this case and their families,” Ada County Prosecutor Jan M. Bennetts said. “I also want to thank the Boise Police Department for their hard work on this tragic case.”
