RE: | State v. Kyle Kelly Sentencing |
BOISE – Kyle Kelly was sentenced Friday for involuntary manslaughter in the fatal Aug. 23, 2019 shooting of 22-year-old Robert “Bobby” Skinner.
Ada County District Judge Samuel Hoagland sentenced Mr. Kelly to a 10-year sentence, but suspended prison time. Judge Hoagland ordered Mr. Kelly to serve 365 days jail time, with 10 days credit served and 500 hours of community service.
Prosecutors asked for a 10-year sentence, with five years fixed prison time before being eligible for parole.
Initially at the time of Mr. Skinner’s death, Mr. Kelly lied to law enforcement and claimed that Skinner had shot and killed himself. When confronted with evidence contradicting that claim, Mr. Kelly eventually admitted to shooting and killing Mr. Skinner. Mr. Kelly was charged with involuntary manslaughter July 2020. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in October 2020.
“I send my sincere condolences to the Skinner family,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “I am grateful for their patience as they navigated this difficult court process and more importantly, their devastating loss.”
