RE: State v. Adam Bodenbach

Adam Bodenbach was sentenced Friday afternoon for the murder of Ryan Banks.

Bodenbach murdered Ryan Banks on January 6, 2017.  Bodenbach and Banks had briefly fought earlier in the evening, leading Banks to leave Bodenbach’s apartment and return home.  Bodenbach found his gun, loaded it, and went to Banks’ apartment and murdered him.  At trial, Bodenbach claimed to have acted in self-defense.  The jury rejected his self-defense claim, and instead unanimously convicted him of Murder in the First Degree, Use of a Weapon In the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of Controlled Substance.

Several family members of the deceased victim, Ryan Banks, spoke at the sentencing hearing about the loss their family suffered.

The Honorable Judge Hippler sentenced Bodenbach to serve life in prison, with the first twenty-five (25) years fixed.  Bodenbach will also pay a $5,000 civil penalty, a $25,000 fine, court costs, and $1,773.89 in restitution.

Judge Hippler spoke to Bodenbach before handing down the sentence, indicating that Bodenbach had not shown real remorse for the murder.
