06-26-2014 State v. Sandy K. Nanney-Guilty Verdict

Sandy K. Nanney, 48, of Boise, Idaho, was convicted of Arson and Malicious Injury to Property by an Ada County Jury today. Nanney was arrested November 22, 2014, after he set retail clothing on fire inside the Burlington Coat Factory Store on Fairview Avenue. Nanney was also convicted of throwing large rocks through the windows of the Albertson’s Grocery Store and the NHA THO Lutheran Church, 2 days before the arson, in the early morning hours of November 20, 2013. Nanney had been released on parole in June of 2013, 5 months before the crimes.

Nanney was in prison for his conviction of Making Threats to Use Weapons of Mass Destruction. In 2003, Nanney mailed 35 letters containing white power he claimed to be Anthrax to the Ada County Courthouse, Boise Towne Square Mall, St. Luke’s Hospital, KTVB, St. Alphonsus Hospital, a hair salon, car dealership and daycare. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Nanney also had prior convictions for Grand Theft, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Stalking.

 The Honorable Stephen Hippler set sentencing for September 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. and ordered Nanney to be held without bond pending sentencing. Nanney faces up to life in prison.
