Garden City man sentenced to prison for aggravated assault

BOISE –Juan Flores-Ramirez was sentenced Monday to serve up to 15 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a domestic violence case.

In May 2020, Mr. Flores-Ramirez, 43, showed up to the house of a victim protected by a civil protection order. While in the residence, he threatened the victim with a gun, and fired one round in the house, which nearly struck a child who was sleeping. The child was uninjured. Mr. Flores-Ramirez was arrested for several felonies including aggravated assault, first-degree stalking, and intimidating a witness.

The defendant pled guilty in November 2020 to aggravated assault with an enhancement for using a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime.

Prosecutors requested a sentence of 20 years, with 10 years to be served before being eligible for parole.

On Monday, Ada County District Judge Patrick Miller sentenced Mr. Flores-Ramirez to 15 years in prison, with five years fixed before being eligible for parole. Judge Miller also ordered the defendant to have no contact with the victims for 15 years.

“I want to say thank you for the victims’ bravery in this case,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “Thank you also to the Boise Police Department for their thorough investigation.”
