No. We do not offer a military discount.

No. Ada County adopted a solid waste ordinance in 2005 to establish sanitary standards. If a payment is not received by the time we process the next billing, a finance charge of 1% of any unpaid balance will be added to your next bill.

Any unpaid fees will be certified to your real property taxes for the year within which they accrued, along with a $125 fee, pursuant to Idaho Code §31-4404, §63-902(10), §31-870(1) and §319870(2).

Once the past due balance has been certified to the property tax roll, you can longer pay that bill to our office. You’ll need to contact the Ada County Treasurer’s Office for more information.

Service Questions

You can order additional garbage or recycling toters by contacting Hardin Sanitation directly at 208-642-2629 or by clicking on the “Add or Remove Extra Cart” button on our homepage.

No. For safety and efficiency, personal store-bought trash cans, boxes, plastic bags, bundled waste, and/or any other loose items will not be collected. All residential waste must be contained within a garbage container provided by the County’s waste collection contractor Hardin Sanitation.

Automatic waste collection, using standard roll-out carts is a proven system that improves the work-life and safety of your local waste collection providers. To be fully automated, carts used for trash collection need to be standardized. Carts provided by the contractor are designed to be used with automatic truck “arms” which allow the truck to pick-up, dump, and replace carts at the curb easily. Below are just some of the added benefits:

  • Wheeled carts with lids reduce windblown litter and helps control odors
  • Reduces risk of worker injuries related to lifting and handling of waste
  • Promotes safety, efficiency, and productivity
  • Decreases worker’s compensation claims and insurance costs
  • Improves employee morale and retention
  • Contractor provided carts are replaced at no charge when cracked or damaged by service trucks

Currently we do not offer composting. Please place yard and organic waste in your trash cart and leave the lid open to allow for drying to reduce container weight and mildew.

Bulky furniture and appliances require a special truck and two employees to remove. Freon is safely drained before appliances are delivered to a local processor for recycling. Large item pickups must be scheduled in advance by calling Hardin Sanitation at 208-642-2629. The item to be removed must be outside and visible to the driver. An additional fee of $30 will be charged to your account.

We do not. Each residential structure receives (1) 95-gallon trash cart and (1) 95 gallon recycle cart.

The cost does not go down if you don’t recycle. A recycling cart is provided to each home as part of the standard service. If you choose not to recycle you may store the cart at home or the cart can be stored at Hardin Sanitation.

Home generated medical waste is not regulated in Idaho. Sharps containers can be dropped off at the Meridian transfer station or can be placed in your regular trash cart for collection. They should be sealed, closed, and secure (duct tape or other packaging) should have the name and phone number of the generator in the event of an exposure.
