Protect yourself from car burglars at trailheads by taking purses and wallets with you.

Detectives are looking for whoever broke into a car parked at the Polecat trailhead off Cartwright Road last weekend and stole a purse from inside.

The car was broken into sometime between 5:30 to 6:45 a.m. on Oct. 23. The victim was recreating in the Foothills when the thief smashed the front driver’s side window of the car, reached inside, and stole a purse — which had several credit cards inside.

While you should always lock your car or truck when parked at a trailhead — or anywhere else — it’s a good idea to leave your purse or wallet at home or take it with you when recreating in the Foothills.

Hiding purses or wallets might not be enough to deter opportunistic thieves at remote locations like a trailhead.

That same trailhead was the site of a similar break-in in February. Deputies arrested the men responsible for that burglary — and two others — in March.

One of those men is in prison, and the other is participating in the Ada County Drug Court program.
