Middleton man dies after head-on collision on Idaho 44

A 56-year-old Middleton man died after his car hit a pickup head-on on Idaho 44 Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 2:15 p.m.
Thomas P. Allsopp was driving a Dodge Charger eastbound on Idaho 44, near the Idaho 16 intersection, when witnesses said the car drifted into the westbound lane, where it hit a Dodge pickup truck.
The truck and car collided on the left front sides of both vehicles. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to sustain severe damage. Allsopp was pronounced dead on the scene.
Paramedics took the 72-year-old male driver of the pickup truck to a local hospital for treatment of what appear to be non life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Both directions of Idaho 44 near the crash site were closed for several hours Saturday afternoon so emergency crews could clean up the wreckage and deputies could investigate the crash.
Deputies are working to determine if Allsopp fell asleep right before the crash occurred.
The crash is still under investigation.
