Detectives are seeking information on Sandy Point battery case from July

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a woman get attacked by three people and then robbed of a handgun in the parking lot of Sandy Point beach the night of July 2.

The woman told investigators she was punched in the face twice and grabbed around the neck during the fracas – which several people in the parking lot would have seen since it was just after 8:30 p.m. when many were leaving the park.

The woman told investigators the trouble started when she was getting ready to leave when she encountered a man in the parking lot who called her son a name earlier in the day.

That talk evolved into a verbal argument between the woman and group of other people who surrounded her car and would not let her in to leave. She said at one point, another woman grabbed her shoulders and tried to hit in the face but missed.

The woman said when she finally got in the car and tried to drive away, a man reached through the open driver’s side window and punched her in the face.

The woman told investigators she jumped out of the car with a handgun in her hand, pointed at the ground, to try to get the group to back off and let her drive away. That’s when she said a man grabbed her around the neck and punched her in the face while another man took the gun out of her hand and threw it on the ground.

The woman said she was able to grab the gun, get into her car, and drive away at that point. The woman said she was not badly injured but did have some cuts and bruises from the confrontation.

The woman said the woman who tried to punch her was about 25 years old and about 5-feet-tall. She had a nose ring on the right side, shoulder-length brown hair, and was wearing a yellow tank top and shorts.

She said one of the men who attacked her appeared to be about 30 years old and had a scar on his right cheek and a tattoo on his left shoulder. He was about 6-feet-4-inches tall,  about 150 pounds, and had short brown hair.

She said the other man was between 16-to-20-years-old, about 5-feet-3-inches tall with a heavy build, and also had short brown hair.

We are asking anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the altercation, to call (208) 577-3703 or send an email to [email protected]
