Detectives are investigating homicide of inmate at IDOC facility

Ada County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death of 52-year-old inmate Glenn A. Cox, whose body was found in his cell early Friday morning.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office has ruled the manner of death to be a homicide.

Prison officials began their investigation just before 1 a.m. when they got information about a fight between Cox and his cellmate, 45-year-old James Junior Nice, at the Idaho State Correctional Institution south of Boise.

Correctional staff found Cox on the floor and unresponsive in his cell. They began immediate medical treatment. Paramedics arrived a short time later but were not able to revive Cox, who was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m.

Nice was taken to the Idaho Maximum Security Institution. Detectives spent much of the morning collecting evidence and doing interviews. Nice and Cox were the only two people in the cell at the time of the fight. No charges have been filed as of Friday afternoon.

Officials with the Ada County Coroner’s Office determined Cox’s cause of death was injuries related to an assault.
