Deputies investigating vehicle burglaries at the Polecat Loop trailhead

Burglars smashed windows of three different cars at a popular trailhead north of Boise March 17 while their owners were hiking nearby.

The thieves stole backpacks, a duffle bag, and other items from inside, including laptops, clothes, hiking equipment, and a wallet.

The cars were all parked at the Polecat Loop Trailhead off Cartwright Road. At some point between 3-to-4 p.m., thieves smashed windows on three different cars parked in the lot.

All three cars were locked, and the owners did not leave any purses or wallets in plain view.  That did not deter the thieves.

While we know it is totally unfair, it’s a good idea to not leave any valuable possessions in plain view inside your locked vehicle when parking at remote areas like a trailhead. If you leave stuff at home or take it with you on the trail, you reduce your risk of theft.
