Deputies find heroin, cocaine, bath salts, and guns in car during traffic stop Monday

A Boise couple is charged with drug trafficking after deputies found about 9 ounces of heroin in their car Monday night during a traffic stop on Eagle Road.

Nigel K. Peters and Karissa M. Peters are both also charged with felony counts of possession of a controlled substance as deputies found about 13 grams of cocaine and a small amount of bath salts in the car.  Deputies also found two handguns and various items of drug paraphernalia in the car.

Deputies also declared the couple’s infant son to be in imminent danger because he was in the car in close proximity to the drugs and guns.

The child was placed in the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

Deputies pulled the Peters’ car over in the 1700 block of S. Eagle Road around 10 p.m. Monday after they saw the car, which was going north, swerve across the line on the east side of the road before slowing down abruptly and then making a sudden left turn on to E. Tarpoon Drive.

It was during the initial contact that deputies determined Nigel Peters had an outstanding arrest warrant for a parole violation. Karissa Peters was the driver and the couple’s 5-month-old son was in a car seat in the back.

A short time later a K9 dog detected drugs in the car. Deputies found most of the heroin in the baby’s diaper bag. The other drugs and paraphernalia, including syringes, were found in other places.

Both Peters were then arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail.

They are set to make their initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

The crime of trafficking heroin is punishable by up to life in prison.
