Deputies continue to investigate fatal truck vs. bicycle crash

A 7-year-old boy who was hospitalized after he was hit by a pickup truck while riding a bike in south Boise Thursday night has died.

Ada County Coroner’s officials have determined Eduard Prokophcuk died from blunt force trauma associated with the crash.

Eduard Prokopchuk was riding his bike on the north side of W. Amity Road, just east of Cloverdale Road, just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by a pickup truck travelling west on Amity.

Two other boys — also under the age of 10 — were also riding their bikes with Eduard Prokopchuk on the side of Amity. One of those boys sustained what appear to be minor injuries in the crash. It is not clear if the truck hit his bike as well, or if the other bike hit his bike. The third boy was not injured or hit by the truck.

The driver of the pickup, an 18-year-old man, stopped immediately and went back to the scene of the crash.

When deputies arrived, the driver of the truck was with Prokopchuk. Paramedics arrived moments later and transported the boy to a local hospital. The boy died early Friday evening, according to coroner’s reports.

A witness told investigators when the truck hit the bike, the force of the impact threw Eduard Prokopchuk from the bike and into a fence near the side of the road.

The pickup driver told investigators he swerved to avoid something in the road just before the crash occurred.

The driver fully cooperated with investigators at the scene.

No charges or citations have been issued at this time. The crash is still under investigation.
